Recently, another bizarre Tiger Woods incident occurred. The legendary golfer was found asleep in his car by police in Jupiter Florida. Woods was wearing his seatbelt with the brake lights illuminated, right turn signal flashing, when police approached his 2015 Mercedes-Benz. Initial reports surfaced that Woods might have been drunk at the time. However, the police report that was released showed that he blew 0.00 on the breathalyzer. Woods showed signs of very “slurred speech” and was “unable to walk alone” according to the officers who charged him with a DUI.
The winner of 14 major championships, second to only Jack Nicklaus, has been battling injuries for a few years. He recently went for his fourth operation on his back since 2014. Tiger tried to make a comeback this year but was forced to withdraw from the Dubai Desert Classic in February, and hasn’t played competitively since. Woods was very apologetic in his statement, stating, “I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again.” Woods also specified in that statement he wasn’t involved with alcohol and that he had “an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications.”
The PGA is making its yearly stop at Muirfield Village this week for “Jack’s Tournament” (The Memorial) which Tiger has won 5 times. During media time leading up to the tournament, Jack Nicklaus had these words to say about Woods; “I feel bad for Tiger. Tiger’s a friend. He’s been great for the game of golf. He needs our help. I wish him well.”
Nicklaus went on to say, “Tiger, I always thought, was going to break my record. Did I enjoy watching him play? Absolutely. Did I enjoy every time Tiger did something, my name was mentioned right beside it? It kept me relevant. It was as good for me as it was for him.”
Like Nicklaus said, Tiger was good and will always be good for the game of golf. We hope Tiger gets healthy and can one day walk the fairways of the PGA Tour. Who are we kidding, how awesome would it be to see that “Tiger Red” on Sundays in a major, making a push to win add to his total?!
There are many questions that still need answering in this latest Tiger Woods incident. We agree with most though, that he first needs to get his mind right before even thinking about playing.
